Cascade Australian Shepherd Club

Show Guide & Judge Hiring Policy

1)       When a club member volunteers to be a show secretary for a club event, that person is responsible for hiring a judge (conformation, obedience, etc). If you volunteer to show secretary and obedience is attached to a conformation show, you are responsible for also hiring an obedience judge and to make sure enough ring stewards are signed up to help in both rings. This also includes our Show n Go matches.

2)       Only one judge may be flown in to judge per show weekend. If another show secretary has already hired a judge, you must find judges locally, with the following exceptions: The August show may have 2 judges flown in. The December show may not fly in any judges due to the cost of airfare during the holiday season. You must check with the club show coordinator before hiring a judge.

3)       If you hire a judge that must be flown in, as soon as you hire that judge, you must purchase the tickets for that judge. Keep in mind, find the cheapest, best way to bring a judge in. Prime time flights are always most expensive. Any ticket costing over $400.00 must be approved by the Cascade Board of Directors. Once a flight has been purchased, get a copy of the flight info and ticket to the club treasurer for reimbursement.

4)       Please keep in mind the following exception in hiring a judge. No judge may be hired that has judged an ASCA event in the State of Washington or Oregon within the past 2 years.  This allows for more judges to be used. An exception can be made in an emergency situation to replace a hired judge.  This may be appealed to the Cascade Board of Directors. The Cascade Board of Directors has final say in any appeal.

5)       As show secretary, you must send out a judge’s contract (2 copies) and a show flier along with a self addressed stamped envelope to your judge as soon as you hire that judge. Contracts are available from the club secretary. You are responsible to keep in contact with your judge. A follow up is needed within 2 weeks of the judging assignment.

6)       As show secretary you are responsible for purchasing prizes for your show. If you are doing conformation only, you may spend up to $125.00. If you are doing conformation and obedience, you may spend up to $150.00. All receipts are due to the club treasurer. Please try to save money for the club on prizes.

7)       Prizes needed for a conformation show are: BJH, RJH, 4 1st place prizes for the junior classes, BOBP, BOSP, AWD, ARWD, AWB, ARWB, ABOB, ABOS, ABOW, WD, RWD, WB, RWB, BOB, BOS, BOW. This is a total of 18 prizes plus the 4 first place for junior classes. Remember that the Intact and Altered prizes must be of equal quality. Some of our shows have specialty classes. Check with the Cascade Board of Directors for these classes.

8)       Prizes for an obedience show are: High Combined, High In Trial Aussie, High In Trial Other Breed, High In Trial Junior and High In Trial. This is a total of 5 prizes.

9)       By following these procedures the Cascade Australian Shepherd Club will continue to put on quality events. If you have any questions, contact the club show coordinator(s).
